I'm not an expert in meditation. I wouldn't have a clue what it is. Well, okay, maybe I do have one or two insights...
Have you ever considered the mirror?
I mean, you have looked at yourself in one, right?
And, well, you don't need me to explain that these can occupy an hour of a person's day for many people.
Reflect on that for a moment.
Let a little light shine upon it.
Is there a slight glimmer there?
A glint or spark of inspiration at all?
You see, we may take that for granted, that we like to look good physically and adjust our appearance with the aid of a mirror so that we can appear to look better than we did before we consulted the device.
So, there is some element within a lot of us that is a kind of preening if you like.
And what is that all about. Well, put one way, we simply want to look our best.
But when it comes to other aspects of ourselves how do or how could we do a similar thing?
Take for example, emotion. If I wanted to look in the mirror to check my emotions looked good I'd have a tough time finding a mirror. Well, not exactly, because that is certainly something that is more of less what can be achieved by quieting the thoughts and becoming reflective.
Being more mentally reflective is a phenomenon exhibited by meditation.
It's not the only one, that's not what meditation is, but it's nice to know that if you want to make sure you emotions look good today then ten or twenty minutes in reflective meditation can help you adjust, or balance your emotions.
On the subject of emotion, and the second thought that occurred to me during a brief reflective spell today is that of the "Vicious Religion".
What an absurd idea, wouldn't you think, I mean really, vicious, vicious religion?
Well, is it so inapt, something vicious leaves scars. That's what these religions do best of all, they leave emotional scars.
So, putting the two together, while you can't go out and buy a mirror to check your emotions, you can become amazingly reflective in your own mind with a little mediation and in so doing you can heal the emotional scars such as those that the vicious religions inflict us with.
I would say this simple and not so difficult ability is certainly within all of us to perform and from personal experience I would say it is invaluable and priceless and if you are looking at a simpe way to attempt to heal yourself or rid yourself of some affliction then this is the key or a very useful key among several keys. It costs nothing except time and effort each day (ideally).
